2012

  • Alan Turing‘s papers about code breaking are released to the public.
  • Thanks to the work of Mariah Lopez, the investigation into the death of Marsha P. Johnson is re-opened.
  • A portrait including Sylvia Rivera is placed in the National Gallery of the Smithsonian.
  • The documentary Pay It No Mind — The Life and Times of Marsha P. Johnson is released.
  • June 7Stormé DeLarverie is honored for her contributions to LGBTQ+ rights by Brooklyn Pride Inc.
  • Mariasilvia Spolato moves into the Villa Armonia nursing home.
  • July 12: Dale Olson receives the Actors Fund Medal of Honor. It is presented to him by Shirley MacLaine.
  • August 9: Dale Olson passes away from liver cancer.
  • October 11: The Legacy Walk is inaugurated in Chicago. Christine Jorgensen, Alan Turing and Alfred Kinsey are inducted into the Legacy Walk.

2013

  • Althea Garrison runs for Boston City Council.
  • June 26: The Supreme Court of the U.S. announces its decision regarding the United States v. Windsor — striking down part of the Defense of Marriage Act.

2014

  • Alan Turing is posthumously pardoned for the crime of “gross indecency”.
  • The label Numero Group establishes a contract with Jackie Shane to re-release her recordings.
  • April 24: Stormé DeLarverie is honored for her contributions to the LGBTQ+ rights movement by the Brooklyn Community Pride Center.
  • May 24: Stormé DeLarverie passes away.
  • June 14: Danny Garvin and Martin Boyce are invited to the White House in recognition of their contributions to the LGBTQ+ rights movement.
  • December 9: Danny Garvin passes away.

2015

  • The family of Ferris Leblanc finally learns of his death at the Upstairs Lounge in 1973.

  • Jackie Shane‘s re-released live album is short-listed for a Polaris Award.
  • The movie Bessie, about Bessie Smith, is released. Ma Rainey is played by Mo’Nique.
  • The film Stonewall is released, depicting a fictionalized version of the Stonewall Uprising.
  • June 26: The Supreme Court of the U.S. announces its decision in Obergefell v. Hodges — deciding in favor of marriage equality.
  • July 4: A celebration is held in Philadelphia in honor of the 50th anniversary of the first Annual Reminder.

2016

  • The Alan Turing Law passes and those convicted of historical laws outlawing homosexuality begin to be posthumously pardoned in England and Wales.
  • The First Annual Ma Rainey Blues Festival is held in Columbus, Georgia.
  • Jackie Shane‘s re-released live album is short-listed for a Polaris Award.
  • The film Happy Birthday Marsha! is released, depicting a fictionalized version of Marsha P. Johnson.
  • June 12: A mass shooting during Latin night at Pulse in Orlando takes the lives of 49 LGBT+ people and allies and wounds another 58. It is, at the time, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

2017

  • January: As one of his last acts as U.S. President, Barack Obama signs Executive Order 13764 to officially overturn Executive Order 10450.
  • The Rainey-McCullers School of the Arts is opened in Columbus, Georgia.
  • The documentary The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson is released.
  • Althea Garrison runs for Boston City Council.
  • Jackie Shane‘s re-released live album is short-listed for a Polaris Award.
  • June 26: The Supreme Court of the U.S. announces its decision regarding Pavan v. Smith — striking down an Arkansas law that prevented both members of a same-sex couple from having parental rights over their children.

2018

  • Althea Garrison runs for the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
  • June 4: The Supreme Court of the U.S. announces its decision regarding Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission — deciding that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission had violated the First Amendment by not acting in a way that was neutral to religious beliefs.
  • October: “Any Other Way”, a compilation of Jackie Shane‘s singles is released.
  • October 26: Matthew Shepard‘s remains are interred at the Washington National Cathedral.
  • October 31: Mariasilvia Spolato dies.

2019

  • “Any Other Way” is nominated for a Grammy — making Jackie Shane a Grammy nominated singer 50 years after she retired from music.
  • January 9: Althea Garrison is sworn in to Boston City Council — taking the seat vacated by Ayanna Pressley.
  • February 8: Jackie Shane‘s recent interview with Elaine Banks is aired on CBC Radio. It is her first publicly broadcast interview in decades.
  • February 21: Jackie Shane is found in her home, having passed away peacefully in her sleep.
